Happy International Women’s Day! Brief History of Women & Homeownership

Happy International Women’s Day! We feel so proud to be a women owned small business, especially in real estate. A little history on women & home ownership: It wasn’t until 1974 that women had the legal right to obtain credit without a husband or a man’s consent/co-signing. Once women were able to receive a line of credit, the home buying process became more attainable for women. And in 2020, 19% of homebuyers in the U.S. were single women. We compiled a small history of women and homeownership below. It is VERY important to note, many of the rights listed below were only granted to white women, and women of color, especially black women, still have not been given the same opportunities as white women in homeownership and it is a huge problem.

We must continue this progress and choose to challenge.

All of our love to all the other fellow women out there: our mothers/sisters/aunts/daughters/grandmothers, our amazing clients, fellow REALTORS®, and any women out there, we see you and we support you.
