Real estate is often glamorized on television. From Selling Sunset to Million Dollar Listing, the life of a real estate agent seems like a dream! But what these shows don’t tell you is that a career in real estate is hard work. It’s not all glamorous parties and beautiful homes. There is a lot of stress and long hours involved in this career. If you’re thinking about becoming a real estate agent, it’s important to know what you’re getting yourself into. In this blog post, we will discuss some of the realities of working in real estate..
What you see on TV: Showing glamorous houses is the norm.
Reality: Showing a lot of not so glamorous homes! We’ve seen a lot of lovely houses, but the majority of our clients are searching for traditional homes rather than mansions.
What you see on TV: High school drama & sorority like offices
Reality: The truth is that the majority of realtors work alone or with a small team. And the vast majority of us are focused on our clients rather than office squabbles.
What you see on tv: Botox & Burger Themed Open Houses
Reality: There might be donuts & bottled waters. Open houses are really for consumers to be able to check out the property and not for over the top parties.
What you see on TV: Accepted offers in 5 minutes
Reality: A lot of negotiations and rejected offers. Similarly, most of the reality shows skip over the contract to close or escrow portion, which is generally the most difficult aspect of a real estate transaction (inspections, appraisals, etc).
If you’re thinking about a career in real estate, don’t let TV shows like Selling Sunset fool you – it’s nothing like what you see on the screen. It’s full of ups and downs, and it takes a lot of hard work to be successful. But it can also be incredibly rewarding, both financially and emotionally. We know because we’ve been doing it for years now, and we still love it. So if you have any questions or want to chat more about this crazy industry, feel free to reach out.
